The thing that is most important to me, as a mother, wife, daughter, sister and as a practitioner, is family. I come from a large extended family and have found it increasingly valuable and rewarding to maintain strong family relationships. Starting and nurturing my own family continues to be the most wonderful and rewarding experience of my life so far. My mission in starting my business, Nayera, is to help enable others to have such positive experiences of family life. I have taught Psychology to adults and young people for seven years and continue to teach part-time at Frome Community College, Somerset.

I discovered HypnoBirthing® when I was pregnant with my first baby. I knew I wanted to have a natural birth and to bring my son into the world in the most gentle and relaxed way I could. In spite of all the negative stories I had heard about labour and birth, I was sure that birthing could be a beautiful and gentle experience, one that I would want to remember. After all, this would be the first time that I would meet my new baby. HypnoBirthing® seemed to offer the solution that I was looking for. When I went into labour my husband and I were completely relaxed about it, but very excited.

By using the breathing and self-hypnosis techniques I had learned I was able to feel relaxed and in control throughout labour and birth. The predominant sensation I had throughout labour was not of pain but great pressure. My husband was amazing throughout the birth. Because he had learned the relaxation and hypnosis techniques alongside me he was able to help me become deeply relaxed and, as an active participant, he was able to enjoy our son’s birth as much as I did. The experience of birthing my baby in this way reinforced the HypnoBirthing® message – that your body is designed for birthing and that, as with any other natural bodily process, bringing your baby into the world can be natural, easy, comfortable and, yes, even pain-free.

My positive experience of birthing my first son brought me to training as a HypnoBirthing® practitioner. I trained in March with the HypnoBirthing® Institute, the original and longest running company to provide a comprehensive ante-natal education program of self-hypnosis for birthing.

I have been practising NLP since 2005 when I gained my NLP practitioner certification from John Seymour Associates. I have found NLP to be the most powerful and life-changing application of psychological principles I have ever come across. It is my training in NLP that has given me the inspiration and confidence to do what, in the past, would have felt like a distant dream, starting my own business. This has allowed me to do what I love doing, working with and enabling other people in an area of life that I hold very close to my own heart, the family. I continued in my training with John Seymour to become a Master Practitioner in 2009 and I am aiming to develop myself and the business further by becoming an NLP trainer.
